Welcome!

Teacher by day, Buff fanatic by night, and, actually throughout the school day also. I was raised in Boulder during the dark Chuck Fairbanks years by two University of Michigan alums. I knew "Go Blue!" long before "Go Buffs!", but when a relatively unknown defensive coordinator was hired to lead the Buffs, my interest was slightly piqued. By the time I reached high school Bill McCartney was building a solid foundation with homegrown talent like Jon Embree and I remember the day in 1986 when Boulder celebrated the win over Nebraska. In college I sold beer, watched Coach Mac win a championship, Rashaan Salaam win a Heisman and I was hooked forever. When Jon Embree was hired, I renewed my season tickets and hit the practice rail. I wrote up a few things for some relatives, forwarded them to a few friends, and then made it a blog. Now I find writing about my Buffies is fun, more informative and therapy! I'll post a few times a week during the season, less in the offseason, with news, musings and links. Go Buffs!

Goose Egg

Another horrible game for the Buffaloes, who actually kept it close for the first quarter before letting the dam break.  The offense could do nothing against the number two defense in the country, and the defense could do little to stop Stanford's freshman QB.  CU was shut out at home for the first time in 25 years, 150 games. Colorado tried three quarterbacks with no success, while Stanford got to play four QBs, including a ton of time for Kevin Hogan, known for his running but who,of course, was able to tear up the Buffs through the air as well, especially the TEs, for whom the defense had no answer.  Any decent play was again followed by a blunder.  Jordan Webb is getting worse, Nick Hirschman looked scared to death and was so woefully ineffective that they had to bring Webb back, then more bad Hirschman. Finally, Connor Wood got his chance against Stanford backups and looked decent, did not show any glaring deficiency. Wood has by far the best arm of the three QBs, looks the most comfortable out there, the most like a quarterback for this offense. That being said, we will probably see Webb under center to start the Arizona game.
Injuries:  LB Jon Major hurt a knee during the week and did not play, nor Kyle Washington, so Brady Daigh and Paul Vigo played a lot.  Kenneth Crawley was sick, Orms is out indefinitely, so Marques Mosley started at safety and Yuri Wright at corner, and Jeff Hall played a bunch.  Both DTs Josh Tupou and Nate Bonsu were out so T-Fr. Samson Kafovalu and Justin Solis got the start inside, although Solis had a scary neck injury and was carted off late in the game.
Gus Handler did not play so the line shifted and Dannewitz still rotated with Nembot at RT?!  Who the hell rotates players by play, not even series to series, but by certain plays?!  I am sure no defenses are picking up any tendencies from the Buffs there?!  None of the three QBs had any time to throw and the team gained negative rushing yards because the offensive line is terrible and Cal fans were so right about Steve Marshall.
Ray Polk returned kickoffs but his only one was from just inside the endzone out to the 10.  Outside of MVP Darragh O'Neill, there is our special teams in a nutshell.  Long snapper Ryan Iverson had three tackles on punt coverage, which is great for him and his family cheering in the stands, but I don't think it is in the team's best interest of our two best special teams tacklers are our punter and long snapper.
This team is just plain awful. They are slow and just not that talented, and it doesn't appear they are improving much.  Whenever I see anything to get excited about, they follow with a fumble, missed block, dropped ball, missed tackle, penalty.  It's getting depressing.  There's a lot more to point fingers at and complain about but I am tired of it.
Arizona got walloped by UCLA 66-10 so they are going to be pissed off next week.

  1. Since CU got walloped this week, will they be pissed off next week vs. Arizona?

    1. Have the Buffs acted pissed off yet this year after any of their wallopings? They have continued to come out basically the same, unaffected at their performances and results. The Wildcats are likely extremely embarrassed at their latest result, and since they have had some really good games, they expect to get back to that level.

    1. I rarely boo my Buffs, occasionally the coaches and I only booed each and every time they put Jordan Webb back in after the INT.
