Welcome!

Teacher by day, Buff fanatic by night, and, actually throughout the school day also. I was raised in Boulder during the dark Chuck Fairbanks years by two University of Michigan alums. I knew "Go Blue!" long before "Go Buffs!", but when a relatively unknown defensive coordinator was hired to lead the Buffs, my interest was slightly piqued. By the time I reached high school Bill McCartney was building a solid foundation with homegrown talent like Jon Embree and I remember the day in 1986 when Boulder celebrated the win over Nebraska. In college I sold beer, watched Coach Mac win a championship, Rashaan Salaam win a Heisman and I was hooked forever. When Jon Embree was hired, I renewed my season tickets and hit the practice rail. I wrote up a few things for some relatives, forwarded them to a few friends, and then made it a blog. Now I find writing about my Buffies is fun, more informative and therapy! I'll post a few times a week during the season, less in the offseason, with news, musings and links. Go Buffs!

Team Awards and more musings on “the search”

Let’s try to focus on the players and the positives for a minute (don’t worry, we’ll get to some gossip on the coaching pleading going on soon).  At the Senior Banquet Sunday (I really should have gone but just wasn’t up for it) the graduated or –ing players were saluted and team awards were given out.  It’s no surprise that Wil Pericak, who had already been voted the Buffalo Heart Award by fans, took home more honors than anyone else.
Zack Jordan Award (most valuable player, selected by teammates): DE Will Pericak
John Mack Award (outstanding offensive players): OT David Bakhtiari, TE Nick Kasa
Dave Jones Award (outstanding defensive player): DE Will Pericak
Bill McCartney Award (special teams achievement): ILB Brady Daigh
Lee Willard Award (outstanding freshman): TB Christian Powell
Dean Jacob Van Ek Award (academic excellence): DE Will Pericak
Offensive Scout Award: QB Shane Dillon
Defensive Scout Award: OLB Lowell Williams
Best Interview (selected by team beat media): OT David Bakhtiari, FS Ray Polk

Also worth mentioning, lost in the shuffle of the “firing”, was that 16 Buffs made the All-Pac-12 Academic team, more than even the mighty learnin’ institutions of Stanford or Cal.

TE Nick Kasa has been selected to play in the January 19 East-West Shrine Bowl in St. Petersburg, Florida to showcase himself for the NFL.

In what was as big of a surprise as Pericak’s awards, Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen was recruiting all weekend, and has no connections whatsoever to CU.  Here is a MSU blogger who did some in depth research to dispel the rumor: http://www.forwhomthecowbelltolls.com/2012/12/9/3746248/dan-mullen-coaching-rumors-mississippi-state-colorado-buffaloes-bulldogs-latest-12-9-2012

Otherwise, it was a pretty quiet weekend on the coaching front.  The most “exciting” thing to happen was Bowling Green head coach Dave Clausen being latest name to surface in the whirlwind of names.  Absolutely nothing else of any concretivity (it’s a word now!).  If Bohnhead has to settle this far down the tree, he should just name Logan.

Verbal commit Sefo Liafu (Wash.) says he has other options but he still wants to go to CU. A few prospects in which CU had interest have committed to other schools, however, no one of any great note, nor has anyone else decommitted.

DB/WR Devin Ross and WR Elijah Dunston, both CU verbal commits from California, took official visits to Fresno State this weekend.

Redshirt sophomore DB Sherrard Harrington seems to be committed to sticking around as he has sent out a few tweets giving thanks for support to the team.

This week should answer most questions at the schools with vacancies; if not, they are in big trouble heading into the “dead” period for recruiting, which starts next Monday, Dec. 17 and goes through January 3.  What is Bohnhead actually doing behind closed doors?
