Welcome!

Teacher by day, Buff fanatic by night, and, actually throughout the school day also. I was raised in Boulder during the dark Chuck Fairbanks years by two University of Michigan alums. I knew "Go Blue!" long before "Go Buffs!", but when a relatively unknown defensive coordinator was hired to lead the Buffs, my interest was slightly piqued. By the time I reached high school Bill McCartney was building a solid foundation with homegrown talent like Jon Embree and I remember the day in 1986 when Boulder celebrated the win over Nebraska. In college I sold beer, watched Coach Mac win a championship, Rashaan Salaam win a Heisman and I was hooked forever. When Jon Embree was hired, I renewed my season tickets and hit the practice rail. I wrote up a few things for some relatives, forwarded them to a few friends, and then made it a blog. Now I find writing about my Buffies is fun, more informative and therapy! I'll post a few times a week during the season, less in the offseason, with news, musings and links. Go Buffs!

Where will this program go?

I just came across Mark Kizla's column from the Denver Post earlier in the week right after the Embree firing (don't know how I missed this one).  Mark Kiszla: Mike Bohn shoveling fast, but CU Buffs hole getting deep - The Denver Post http://www.denverpost.com/kiszla/ci_22070002/mark-kiszla-mike-bohn-shoveling-fast-but-cu#ixzz2DtpH2gkd
He is the only one (surprisingly) to have flat out said that this was likely Bohn's plan from the get go, when he couldn't afford a bigger name and settled for Embree. Here are the highlights:
"Bohn is lucky to still be employed. He struck out with the hires of Dan Hawkins and Embree. Why university leadership or boosters have faith Bohn will get it right this time escapes all logic. Seven consecutive losing seasons of CU football are on Bohn's watch. He buried the program, then handed Embree a spoon to dig out...Colorado couldn't afford to hire an experienced coach in 2010, so it settled on somebody who loved the Buffaloes to appease former CU players until the money from the Pac-12 Conference started rolling in. My theory: Embree was never really expected to be more than a cuddly, politically correct stopgap measure until the Buffaloes could afford a real coach...Using one of the oldest plays in the football playbook, Bohn fired Embree before somebody in authority at CU got the bright idea to fire the athletic director instead...Embree was played for the gullible fool to keep a seat warm until it got so hot that Bohn unceremoniously dumped his third football coach. Bohn betrayed the misplaced trust of Embree, convinced he would get more time to return CU to glory when falling asleep Saturday night, only to be stunned Sunday when told to clean out his desk...Why does Bohn believe he is the right man to pick the next football coach at Colorado?"
Bohn likes to answer this question by comparing himself to DeLoss Dodds at Texas who raises more money in a month than Bohn can in a year, more in a year than Bohn has raised in his life, and I think the Longhorns might have a slightly better success rate and a more recent national championship, although I didn't research the exact stats.
Here's the take of a local Erie supporter of the program: "Two years for a coach that has no experience as a coordinator or head coach, to take over a bankrupt program with five straight losing seasons.  Embree got punked.  Bohn punked Buff nation.  Amazing to watch it all unfold."

Anyway, Bohn does get to pick, but he might be the last to pick. He already lost out on his first choice Jeff Tedford, who wold him no on OC but to come calling about HC until he saw the press conference; then, he lost his second choice, Gary Anderson, who leveraged the attention into a nice extension at USU.  Who's got next?
Stuart's poll on CUattheGame.com asked when CU would hire a coach, with the answer choices ranging anywhere over the next few weeks to the most popular choice: "Only after ESPN runs a story about CU being the only BCS team not able to find a new coach."  They jusy may have to wait until most of the more attractive programs fill their openings before anyone will actually settle on and make a commitment to Colorado. Here the latest on the candidates:

Now that Cincinnati's regular season is over, and Butch Jones doesn't need to keep the attention on his current players, he can get down to the business of abandoning them.  Purdue or Colorado?  Sources have said that he has both accepted and turned down the Purdue job (I don't know their financials and what they might be prepared to offer him), but should be visiting there today.  If he makes it out of there without a signing and announcement, he will likely fly west to check out what Mike Bohn can offer.

It would seem Fresno State's Tim DeRuyter is quietly biding his time and checking out the landscape as his corner has been much more quiet than was Anderson's or is Jones' now. Likewise, BYU's Bronco Mendenhall, is still wquietly being talked about in many place.

Mike MacIntyre of San Jose State, still seems like the most viable candidate that has been mentioned, just because everyone else seems to have a better situation already, or a better one available to them.

I am not sure if anyone else is really a realistic option, until Bohn realizes he may have to look at coordinators also.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to legendary Buffalo Belle JUDY DIPPO!
