Welcome!

Teacher by day, Buff fanatic by night, and, actually throughout the school day also. I was raised in Boulder during the dark Chuck Fairbanks years by two University of Michigan alums. I knew "Go Blue!" long before "Go Buffs!", but when a relatively unknown defensive coordinator was hired to lead the Buffs, my interest was slightly piqued. By the time I reached high school Bill McCartney was building a solid foundation with homegrown talent like Jon Embree and I remember the day in 1986 when Boulder celebrated the win over Nebraska. In college I sold beer, watched Coach Mac win a championship, Rashaan Salaam win a Heisman and I was hooked forever. When Jon Embree was hired, I renewed my season tickets and hit the practice rail. I wrote up a few things for some relatives, forwarded them to a few friends, and then made it a blog. Now I find writing about my Buffies is fun, more informative and therapy! I'll post a few times a week during the season, less in the offseason, with news, musings and links. Go Buffs!

What a Mess!

Is he or isn't he?  Numerous parties have adamantly stated that nothing has been done, he has definitely not told Cincy that he is staying, but they absolutely cannot match the money; and the Denver Post (and the Cincinnati Enquirer as well) seems to be sticking to its story that their sources have confirmed that Butch Jones will be the next CU head football coach.  Many still think it will happen today (Thursday).  Jones just "wants to do the right thing" since so "many families are involved".  He was perturbed at photographers and hid behind a food cart, so will he back out because of this premature release?  If he does, what does that show us-that he's a stand-up guy, or that we're glad he didn't?  I still have sneaky suspicion that Wisconsin, or some other program who is more tight-lipped than CU, is in the running.  Hopefully, we will all know something today.

Here's Mark Kizla's take: http://www.denverpost.com/cu/ci_22134335

In the meantime, let's take a look at the pros and cons of Butch Jones and CU:

Pros: He is a respected offensive mind and recruiter.  His spread running attack could be a really good fit with the talent and altitude here. His attacking special teams attitude would be welcomed.  He does seem to be a man of integrity, sticking to his word, not much bullshit.  However, he is famous for some fiery pre-game speeches that get his teams riled up.

Cons:  Eccentric personality probably not a great fit for Boulder-he has been described a "Midwestern" guy, and Boulder is well, just different.  Will he always be looking for the next jump?  He has twice followed Brian Kelly and taken over stable, stocked programs, but has never been part of a rebuilding project.CU is certainly not the top of the coaching barrel. He does not have great ties and nor has he had great success in recruiting California or Texas.  Too many similarities to hawkins. And of course, he is Mike Bohnhead's choice.

Mapping it all out, I am not sure I am all that excited, and am not sure why I should believe that he puts CU in any better position than Embree.  Plus, we won't ever know since Jones is going to get way more resources.  Who knows what the alternative would be?  Mendenhall sounds like he is out. DeRuyter or MacIntyre?  Bohnhead is sweating large bullets.  Has he given in and is considering coordinators?  If they don't get someone in soon, as in before this weekend when the recruiting dead period begins, the are really screwed in terms of solidifying commits and getting others to consider Colorado.
